Nick Arding OBE
Graduating from Lancaster University with a BSc(Hons) in Physics in 1982, Nick attended training as a Royal Marines Officer at the Commando Training Centre at Lympstone in Devon. Having been awarded both the Commando Medal and the Sword of Honour, Nick went on to serve with the ‘Corps’ for 23 years, undertaking three operational tours in Northern Ireland and other operational tours in Bosnia and Afghanistan. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1999 he went on to command the assault squadron on board HMS Fearless, he was Second in Command of the Commando Logistics Regiment and he finished his service as the Commanding Officer of the 1800 strong Commando Training Centre. During his time in the Royal Marines Nick was awarded the General Officer Commanding Northern Ireland’s Commendation, the Queens Commendation for Valuable Service and in 2005 he received the OBE. During 2003 he led the Royal Navy expedition to Mount Everest, the culmination of his own two year project. As a result of his part in a rescue of two civilian climbers from another climbing team Nick was awarded the Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal.
In 2005 Nick resigned his commission in order to train as a science teacher at his local secondary school. Gaining his Qualified Teacher Status in 2006 he decided to seek challenge in the world of management training and coaching.
Using his considerable management and leadership experience, not to mention newfound experience from the ‘coal face’ of education, Nick has worked as a consultant and as a coach with the following groups; Deutsche Bank, Red Bull, BMW, Goldman Sachs, BT, Shell Oil, EDS, South West Water, Rotary, Warwick Business School, Nottingham University, Sheffield University, Exeter University and the Women’s Institute. He has also given numerous presentations worldwide on his leadership experiences.
Nick is a highly experienced rock climber and mountaineer having climbed and ski toured in many areas across the world during the past 30 years. He is a holder of the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate (MIC) and is a UIAA International Mountain Leader. He is also a trainer and coach in Remote First Aid.
