Jenny Bowen
“I have been exceptionally lucky to have experienced some wonderful sights and sounds of Africa and I would love other people to have that opportunity too.”Jenny’s first employment after University was in Zimbabwe where she lived and worked for two years. Here she set up numerous conservation projects in remote bush camps for volunteers on 12-week expeditions. She organised these groups into specific projects, briefed the groups on the purpose and reason for the studies, arranged the logistics and drove volunteers to conservation tasks – 4WD being essential!
Since then, Jenny has set up and led various trips to Africa including four 3-month long expeditions to southern Africa for gap year students. She has also worked with African game capture units, led two trips to Costa Rica and Panama, one to Ecuador, two to Sinai and numerous groups in the UK mountains. However, she is passionate about Africa and always looks forward to her next visit to the continent.
Professionally, Jenny is a qualified ecologist with thirteen years experience. As well as conservation work in Africa, she has assisted in setting up the first terrestrial protected area in Vanuatu (southwest Pacific), and completed Action Plans for tourism sites in the Commonwealth of Dominica. She is a qualified Mountain Leader, Advanced Scuba Diver and trained in Wilderness First Aid.
