Far off the beaten track, Nicaragua is the least densely populated country of the Central Americas. A country of rain forests; lagoons; brooding volcanoes; deserted sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean; one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world, teeming with fish including the world’s only species of freshwater sharks and the prehistoric gaspar fish; centuries old cities of stunning Colonial architecture.
Nicaragua’s somewhat turbulent history of social unrest and post-colonial revolution has ironically, resulted in it now being one of the most peaceful and safe countries of the America’s, with a friendly populace of budding poets all too willing to share a joke, loud and raucous laughter is commonly heard. Cowboys who look as though they were born in the saddle are still seen and carts pulled by oxen and horses are commonly used to haul goods from farm to market.
